I do…I do…….I do believe in fairies…I do…I do…
This little chant came to mind while we were taking a walk through the rainforest this morning. It is from the Peter Pan movie, when Tinkerbell is dying because too many people don’t believe in fairies anymore.
We had driven up one of the mountains in the Main Range National Park, as far as the road goes and then walked along the path worn through the rainforest to the Mt Castle Lookout.
It isn’t really far, only about 480 metres, though much of that is in an I upward direction, over tree roots and damp, slippery leaf litter.
Nothing much caught my attention going up as I was too focused on my footing and getting my body to just keep going…but coming down was a lot less strenuous and I felt much more comfortable, so I was able to take some time to look around and enjoy the scenery.
From fungi growing on fallen branches
to holes in the trunks of trees;
and the sunlight touching the moss and ferns
it all made me think of the little creatures that call the forest home.
I imagine those that live in the forest canopy,
way up high where the elkhorns grow
that rely on the berries and leaves that have fallen to the ground.
How magical a place…if only I was small enough to call in for a cup of tea with sweet nectar and a bit of berry pie!
