Okay…I don’t really expect the celebration to last a whole week…but I think it is easier to allow for a few days either side of the actual day for birthday activities to take place. Today was the start of my birthday celebration with the receiving of a special gift.
For quite a while now I have enjoyed baking. Cakes, muffins, slices, cupcakes, scones, cheesecakes, pies, brownies…and some savoury dishes as well. I love going to kitchenware stores almost as much as scrapbook/stationary stores. There are so many things that have been invented to make cooking easier…or to just fill our kitchen drawers and empty our pockets…not too mention cookbooks. I just love those too!
I have had my mixer for many years and whilst it still works fine, it is getting on and doesn’t have the power or features that I am often looking for. My ‘dream mixer’ has been a KitchenAid since I first discovered them…though I have never been able to justify the cost of the initial purchase or the multitude of attachments.
This year, David succumbed to my frequent, subtle comments about how my baking would be so much more frequent and better if only I had a bigger and better mixer…and today I received an amazing gift…a Kenwood Major Premier!
It is not only a mixer, but a blender and mincer as well! The blender has a thermo resist glass goblet…so it can do hot soups too! I am so excited and cannot wait to try it all out. This afternoon I cleaned it all and read the instructions for all the various mixing implements…having previously only had a single set of beaters to choose from. I even contemplated baking a cake but the reality of having the oven on was too much in todays heat…and a lack of ingredients for a no-bake dessert meant I just have to be patient (though only until tomorrow afternoon)…
To distract me from my new toy, we all played a game of ‘Big Bang Theory’ that I had received for Christmas…and I won!!!
I guess today it really was just all about me…and my birthday isn’t until Tuesday!
