Relax and Refresh

Posted by on 19 January, 2014

“Lazy Sunday afternoon…I’ve got no mind to worry…Close my eyes and drift away…”

That basically sums up my day today!
In between a teeny tiny bit of cleaning, I pretty much didn’t accomplish anything…and it was wonderful!

A game of backgammon followed by a simple lunch…then lay on the couch and read…I’m about 3/4 the way through The Hobbit. I love to read…and usually read the book before seeing the film version, however this time I didn’t. I had previously tried to read Tolkien’s LotR books but just couldn’t get into them, so I didn’t bother attempting The Hobbit before going to see the first film…and seeing it didn’t really drive me to go buy the book…however my nature overturned that decision with the pending release of the 2nd film and with some gentle persuasion I received the book as a gift for Christmas.

Well…I started reading it while camping, before going to see the second film…and couldn’t get over how different it was from the films. Usually when I’ve read a book first, I don’t think the film is quite as good…I mean often they have done a fantastic job, but so much of the story is missing due to time constraints and to keep the audiences attention. Not this time… If you have read the book you will know what I mean… I guess I should have figured that out beforehand, seriously, how can they make one 400 page book into three 3 hour feature films without adding something to the storyline?

Anyway, today I reached the part of the book that I think will be in the third film, so I am entering uncharted territory. It is distracting though that my mind keeps interrupting with suggestions on what will be in the new film…like it is trying to read between the lines…

I also played some Xbox with David, which is rare for me. We played a driving game (called Forza I think). I won 3 out of 4 races…I’m sure it had nothing to do with different settings based on experience (or lack thereof)!!! I find that playing video games now makes me feel a bit nauseous, so I had to go and lay down afterwards… After my Sunday afternoon nap I felt much better…and read a bit more.

Dad brought Courtney home from the coast this afternoon. As her room had been used by the boys while they were here with the new twin beds in it, it was a bit crowded, however she was able to rearrange it to her liking. I think it looks very comfy…and tidy…
