I do wonder why we still have gazetted public holidays on the day before or after the actual day. Not that I am complaining…it means I get several long weekends/short working weeks each year regardless of what day the special date lands. Though for those who work in the retail segment of society, there is no longer any real definition between one day and another…with shops open 7 days a week and only closed on the ‘really special’ public holidays.
However, I am still happy to be in a position that I don’t have to work today, the day after Australia Day because it is a Monday!
To make the most of the lovely day, albeit a bit windy, we went for a short drive out to Cooby Dam for a picnic. The road down around the back of the dam wall is open again for the first time in 3 years…since the big floods and storms washed part of the road away. It was great to see that most of the infrastructure of the bbq areas was undamaged!
Mum and Dad; Barb and Jim; Pam and Eric and the four of us had a relaxing day sitting in the shade out of the wind, talking and laughing…and eating lunch too!
On our way out at the end of our picnic, David spotted an unusual item…it took me a while to work out why it was unusual…can you spot it?
The drive home wasn’t far…but we did agree it qualified as a ‘journey’ worthy of a treat…so 4 x 30 cents of happiness was most appropriate!
