The Jacaranda

Posted by on 23 November, 2011

Living in Qld, there is no daylight savings….so at 4:30am it is light and bright. I tried to ignore this fact this morning, however by 5:30am I was totally awake and decided it was time to get up. Thankfully the rest of the house was already stirring as well, so it was not a hard decision to go for an early stroll.

Jacaranda blooms

By popular choice, we headed to the Japanese Gardens again. Along the way, and in the gardens themselves, the jacaranda trees are all in full bloom. The trees are beautiful, I don’t think anyone would disagree (except maybe someone with one planted near their swimming pool)…with pretty purple flowers and a delicate scent that is not sickly or overpowering.

I am no poet…but I do have a thing for poems and quotes…so I have found a little poem by Vivian Smith that contained this verse I thought summed it up nicely.

Washed out, fastidious, the blue
jacaranda flowers in the street
with all the creative happiness of art,
showing how age and lightness still meet.
