The only good reason to get out of bed at 4am is to travel somewhere exciting. The adrenalin wakes you up and keeps you going like nothing else I have experienced (remembering that I don’t drink coffee).
This morning when the alarm went off at 4am, the feeling wasn’t quite the same. Knowing I was heading to the airport, my emotions were mingled between sadness, jealousy and precursor excitement.
Sadness…Dave’s boys are leaving to go home to Adelaide after being with us for five weeks: at the beach; at home for Christmas; camping in the bush and back home for games and walks to the park and birthday parties. I hope they enjoyed their time with us and don’t think of me as the wicked stepmother!
Jealousy…I love to fly and wish it was me getting on the plane!
Precursor Excitement…in less than 2 months it will be our turn, flying to Kuala Lumpur for our next adventure!
Our trip to the airport was uneventful, just the way I like it. We did see a couple of hot air balloons, which reminds me that I want to look up some reviews about the tethered flight options at Angkor Wat.
We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare and spent it browsing the bookstore. I love quotes and found a little journal with this one in it…
We are now at the gate, the boys are on the plane…it hasn’t left yet (currently about 20 minutes late). They are travelling with a lot of cyclists heading to Adelaide for the Tour Down Under.
There were a few tears of course, though all in all I think they are getting better at flying!
